StarTimes officially enters the DTH business as StarSat

StarTimes has launched it new digital television service StarSat, a digital satellite TV brand, offering a multitude of channels available in simple package choices for subscribers.

As Nigeria looks forward to 2015 deadline for the digital migration, indeed, the launch, of StarSat, is yet another momentum for the Nigerian television industry.

Speaking at the public launch of the service in Abuja, Maxwell Loko, director, Television Enterprises, NTA STAR TV NETWORK, said that StarSat uses the DTH technology and it is the product of NTA-Star TV Network, StarTimes.

With StarSat’s launch, he said, the Network is spreading the access of Nigerians to digital television service as it would complement the current DTT services, StarTimes, in enhancing Nigeria’s digital migration process.

Loko said, “This DTH service would be offering Nigerians more television viewing channels, good sound quality as well as high picture quality that are characteristics of digital television; moreso, it utilizes a full HD decoder with HD Channels.

“StarSat will offer subscribers choice in their TV viewing at an affordable price through packages that are streamlined to suit their pockets and viewing preferences. Its content offerings would include movies, news, series, kid’s programmes, music, gospel, documentaries, sport, lifestyle, telenovelas, and others”.

On his part, Mr Joshua Wang, chief executive office, NTA STAR TV, said, “As an organisation, NTA-Star TV Network is committed to ensuring that Nigerians and Africans at large have access to affordable digital television. By providing our customers with the best entertainment value and enhancing their experience through excellent service, we hope that StarSat would be dominant broadcaster and entertainment provider on the African Continent.

“With the afore in mind, we are committed to ensuring that StarSat offers a diverse range of rich content bearing in mind the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation’s, NBC, requirement by ensuring that we give Nigerians access to some percentage of local content, while ensuring they also are provided with a diverse range of international content to give them an wholesome digital television experience.

“There are over 100 channels and audio music channels available on StarSat for subscribers’ selection from our available bouquets, depending on their individual needs. Channels on offering on StarSat includes African Movie Channel, WAP TV, Al Jazeera, BBC World News, TVC News, NTA Sports 24, Star Sport 2, NBA TV, Fine Living, National Geographic, BET, Jim jam, Discovery, Fox, Bollywood, MGM and others.

“Subscribers can determine the most suitable packages for their lifestyle from the three bouquets available on StarSat. The bouquets are StarSat Special with 50 TV channels and 25 audio music Channel, StarSat Smart with 70 TV channels and 25 audio music channels and StarSat Super with 100 TV and 25 audio music channels.

“The StarSat HD decoder boots faster than any of its kind when switched on with the best of Indian bouquet, Bollywood HD and NBA TV HD Channels. The StarSat HD Decoder costs only ₦12,600; the price includes the satellite dish, decoder and one month Subscription.
