Gulder Ultimate Search Season 11 – The Mission Episode 6: Team Yellow’s Startling Discovery Propels Them To Joint-Camp Leadership
For the first time, Team Yellow’s Emmanuel and Joshua won a task on Gulder Ultimate Search 11. This propelled them to joint first position, causing the biggest upset in GUS 11’s clan ranking.
The day’s task was two-pronged. The first part involved the contestants solving a puzzle while the second phase involved searching for a hidden object with the aid of a compass.
To solve the riddle, a member of the team had to retrieve small planks containing several letters hidden in several locations in the jungle. The other member would them make use of the letters to solve the puzzle. Contestants on the same team were barred from talking to each other.
The winning team would get the maximum seven points for winning the game and the Council of Elders threw in a bonus of 10 points for the discovery of the object.
The Yellow team was the first to solve the riddle, followed by the Blue team and then the Red team. Team Indigo’s Otto, Team Purple’s Cosy, Team Green’s Loretta and Team Orange’s Chinedu were all asked to do 20 push-ups as punishment for attempting to tell their teammates the answer, in disobedience of Chidi’s no-talking-to-teammate order.
Despite being reprimanded, Cosy still attempted to catch a glimpse of the answer from other teams that had successfully solved the puzzle, with the aim of telling his team mate, Ikenna I, the answer. Team Purple was promptly disqualified from the game, thereby scoring zero, the lowest ever score on GUS 11.
Emmanuel eventually found the hidden object wrapped in sackcloth and earned 17 points for the Yellow team; the highest score on GUS 11. Teams Blue and Red earned six points and five points respectively for solving the puzzle, while the remaining teams were awarded a point each.
With 28 points, Team Yellow has been propelled to the top of the score table. Team Blue also has 28 points and are joint clan leaders. Teams Indigo, Purple, Orange, Red and Green are third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively with 22, 17, 16, 15 and 7 points.
Team Yellow members were given strict instructions not to let the wrapped object out of their sight and also to bring it to the Place of the Talking Drum.
Back at the camp, Emmanuel strapped the object to his body. Ikenna I was downcast after his team’s poor performance. Samantha consoled him using her Red Team’s recent winning streak as an example of the possibilities of staging a comeback after several poor performances.
Later at the Place Of The Talking Drum, Team Orange’s Chinedu and Team Green’s Loretta proclaimed that they would have gotten the answer to the riddle had they swapped roles with their partners: their team mates would have been the ones who fetched the pieces; while they pieced it together.
Team Green’s Blessing blamed her inability to solve the puzzle on being tense, after Team Yellow’s Emmanuel yelled out that he had solved his puzzle.
Chidi Mokeme, the Anchor man, reprimanded members of Purple for cheating, which he said was unacceptable and unworthy of ‘warriors’; hence, their disqualification from the morning’s game.
He saved the toughest words for the Indigo team members comprising Otto and Ikenna E, for stealing cassava. He told them harshly: “Stealing is unacceptable on Gulder Ultimate Search. It is a crime punishable by only one thing – Eviction from the camp!”
As the anchor man asked them to rise, Otto’s sigh was audible and Ikenna E’s fright, profound. They made a last ditch effort to secure their places on Gulder Ultimate Search by admitting their ‘crime’ and humbly appealing to the Council of Elders for forgiveness after violating the rules.
On Chidi’s instruction, they wasted no time in offering their apologies to the rest of the tribe; which was promptly accepted. They however had three points deducted from their score. While they still maintain their third position, they now have 19 points.
Chidi then asked the The Yellow Team what the object was while Emmanuel said they had not opened it. Chidi then asked them to pass it to the Blue Team who opened it to reveal a glittering sword.
Chidi described the sword as the first major find of the mission and one of many to come. He warned that the sword had to be kept safely because it had a major role to play as the GUS ‘The Mission’ unfolds.
