South Africa to provide free STBs to 5 million households
The South African government to provide free set-top-boxes to over five million households in order to fast track the digitalisation process and assist lower economic sections of the society. The cabinet had approved this initiative.
“Cabinet approved the Broadcasting Digital Migration Amendment Policy with the inclusion of the control system in the set-top-box, which will be clearly defined when the policy is published,” stated Department of Communications, Republic of South Africa on its website.
“The priority will be given to those households in the border region areas of the country. The Minister of Communications will announce the digital signal switch on and analogue signal switch off date shortly,” added the department.
