Turner Broadcasting is launching its Boing kids channel in Africa

The new English-language service will sit alongside Turner’s Cartoon Network and Boomerang services in the region. Boing skews to 4-to-14s and is gender neutral.

The launch line-up includes animated series Dexter’s Laboratory, Angelo Rules and Dragons: Riders of Berk. There will also be classic Warner Bros. and Turner series including Batman, GreenLantern and Thundercats.

The first carriage deal for Boing is with Nigeria-based DTH service provider Montage.

Turner has launched the Boing brand and channel inEurope, with services in Italy, France, Spain and Turkey, but the African roll launch is the first on that continent.

The company said deals are in the offing with a range of DTH, DTT, IPTV and mobile platforms in territories including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia and Tanzania.

Pierre Branco, vice president and general manager of Turner Southern Europe and Africa said: “We are thrilled to be bringing Boing to Africa as it will diversify the programs currently made available to ouryounger clientele and we are certain they will enjoy this new exciting experience. We believe this is the first step to expanding our brands to all African families”.
