NEW ON TV: National Geographic Channels International launches the exclusively African channel Nat Geo Gold

National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) inaugurates Africa’s bespoke new channel Nat Geo Gold (NGG) – all set to make waves on the StarTimes and ImoTV.

Nat Geo Gold brings quality factual entertainment content that will showcase hit shows including Megafactories, Dog Whisperer and Air Crash Investigation, that NGCI has been synonymous with, through a bouquet of channels including National Geographic Core, Nat Geo WILD and Nat Geo Adventure, to brand new audiences across Africa.

Viewers will watch the same shows as in the rest of the world. For the first time, Nat Geo Gold will be available in countries like Rwanda, Burundi, Central African Republic, Mozambique, Guinea Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire via the StarTimes platform and ImoTV.

One of the top 100 technology firms in China, StarTimes, is a growing player in Africa’s pay television business. The company has been operating on the Continent since 2002.

ImoTV is run by Cellcast Nigeria Limited, an indigenous company that was incorporated in Nigeria in 2006 as a mobile Wireless Application Service Provider. The company is renowned for having the exclusive mobile TV rights to most soccer matches in European leagues and is available in most countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The partnership with Cellcast, sees FIC Africa broadcasting a linear channel via mobile for the first time.

FOX International Channels Africa General Manager; Alessandro Tucci said: this was NGCI’s first channel on the Continent designed to cater for the new pay-tv platforms currently burgeoning across Africa.

” Programming from the National Geographic library stock relevant to an African viewership, and based on the NGCI programming tent poles of science, technology, history, culture and natural history has been sourced

“Focused content puts us in a prime position, also, in due course, to deliver programming to meet the needs of our prospective advertisers.” Tucci added the new channel would take pride of place on emerging platforms Star Times as well as on mobile phone via ImoTV.
