Sky News announces Baroness Thatcher funeral coverage details

Sky News have today (April 15th) announced full details of their Baroness Thatcher funeral coverage.

Thatcher’s funeral takes place on Wednesday (April 17th), and will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London – Sky’s coverage will begin at 9am, conclude at 7pm, and be hosted by some of the 24-hour rolling news channels most respected anchors and reporters.

Full details of the coverage are as follows:

TV

From 6am, on Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes, the channel will air special packages of the former Prime Minister.

From 9am, Dermot Murnaghan will present from St. Paul’s. Anna Botting returns from maternity leave to present from Poets’ Corner in Westminster, with Colin Brazier basing himself in Trafalgar Square from 8am, and Gillian Joseph at St. Clement Danes from 8am – no adverts will be played during the processions and service, which will occur between approximately between 10am and 12pm.

Lorna Dunkley will take over at St. Paul’s from 2pm, with Jeremy Thompson taking over from her from 5pm.

Political Editor Adam Boulton will be based as Westminster throughout the day, with Deputy Political Editor Joey Jones inside Downing Street from 6am. North of England CorrespondentGerard Tubb will be live from Easington in Yorkshire, and Ireland Correspondent David Blevins in Belfast. There will also be reporters based outside Downing Street, in Chester Square, Grantham, Brixton and Glasgow.

Royal, Religious & National Events Commentator Alastair Bruce will be on hand to explain to viewers what is occurring, and why.

Sky News Radio

Throughout the day, network bulletins will be broadcast live from outside St. Paul’s – reporters will be stationed across central London.

Throughout the day, visitors to SkyNews.com will be able to follow a live blog and tweet stream from the team covering the event. A live simulcast of Sky News will also be available, as will a selection of picture galleries. Senior News Correspondent Ian Woods will have reaction from around the country, with North of England Correspondent Mike McCarthy attending an event outside of London. Colin Brazier will also have a piece, from amongst the gathered crowd.

Throughout the day, users of the Sky News app for iPad will be able to watch a rewindable, uninterrupted live stream of Sky News’ coverage on-the-go. There will be bespoke content from dedicated digital reporters with the crowds, in-depth analysis of Baroness Thatcher’s key achievements and controversial policies, archived video highlights of her best speeches and Commons performances, reaction from around the world, the order of service, the guest list, a list of notable absences, an interactive map of the procession route, exclusive behind-the-scenes material from the journalists covering the event, and a full multi-media live blog.

Throughout the day, users of Sky News app for iPhone will be able to follow the live blog, browse through image galleries, and navigate an interactive map of the procession route. Video content includes keys moments from the event and highlights from Baroness Thatcher’s best speeches and Commons performances.
